WattAnyWhere Selected by Swiss Climate Foundation for Funding Following Rigorous Climate Impact Review

As part of the first round of its 2025 grant cycle, the Swiss Climate Foundation has selected WattAnyWhere for funding, recognizing the company’s pioneering clean energy technology and its potential to significantly reduce CO₂ emissions in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Following a rigorous and highly competitive evaluation, WattAnyWhere is among the first group of a total of eleven innovative SMEs chosen for their outstanding climate impact.

WattAnyWhere was chosen based on its innovative clean energy generator, which converts renewable ethanol into pollutant-free electricity using solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). The solution enables off-grid energy autonomy for commercial and industrial users, providing a sustainable alternative to diesel generators and reducing emissions by up to 308 gCO₂eq/kWh.

As part of its application, WattAnyWhere demonstrated a detailed climate impact model tailored to the Swiss energy landscape, showing that replacing 1.08 TWh of fossil-based electricity could avoid 1.76 million tons of CO₂ emissions over the next 10 years.

The selection process by the Swiss Climate Foundation was very rigorous, which makes this recognition all the more meaningful,” said Alexandre Laybros, Co-founder & Co-CEO of WattAnyWhere. “This is not just funding, it’s a validation of our strong business case and our commitment to delivering efficient, locally adapted energy solutions. We’re honored to be among a select group of SMEs shaping a more sustainable future for Switzerland.

The funding will support the next advancement phase of WattAnyWhere’s 12kW prototype, enabling its integration into a containerized system and testing with real-world applications.

WattAnyWhere’s technology stands out by combining:

  • Energy autonomy without reliance on the grid
  • Renewable ethanol as a fuel source, derived from residue biomass
  • High-efficiency (60%) fuel cell conversion instead of combustion
  • Minimal operational costs thanks to low ethanol feedstock prices

By using existing infrastructure and residue-derived ethanol, WattAnyWhere avoids the high costs and scalability challenges of hydrogen-based systems, offering a cleaner, safer, and more cost-effective alternative.

This achievement aligns with the Swiss Climate Foundation’s mission: “Protecting the environment. Strengthening SMEs.” The foundation continues to empower companies whose climate-friendly innovations contribute meaningfully to Switzerland’s energy transition and emission reduction goals.
