On October 15, 2025, WattAnyWhere conducted a full-scale demonstration of its low-carbon renewable ethanol generator on the A10 motorway at the Shell service station in Val Neuvy, with the support of Shell and their GameChanger Accelerator program. The unit delivered up to 12 kW of low-carbon electricity in autonomous operation, demonstrating the solution’s ability to supplement existing energy supplies, increase the resilience of the service station’s electrical grid, provide a 100 MWh reserve with just 30 m³ of ethanol, and replace diesel generators.
A decisive step towards industrial deployment
After several phases of fully autonomous testing, WattAnyWhere reached a new milestone with this demonstration at the Val Neuvy motorway site between Paris and Orléans. The objective: to validate the generator’s ease of implementation (installation in less than two days) and its ability to supplement the energy supply of the existing low-voltage line.
This demonstration takes place within a context where energy sovereignty and the transition to local, low-carbon solutions are becoming national priorities. France and the European Union aim for a 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, accelerating the decarbonization of strategic sectors: transport (30%), industry (20%), agriculture (20%), housing (20%), and energy and biomass (10%).
A Franco-Swiss solution for decarbonizing isolated sites
Compact, transportable, and autonomous, the WattAnyWhere generator is based on a fuel cell powered by renewable ethanol, used as a hydrogen carrier. Fully containerized, the solution can provide clean, particle-free energy while ensuring independence from the electrical grid.
With a power output of 300 kW and a storage capacity of 100 MWh, equivalent to 3,000 electric vehicle charges, the generator eliminates the need for fossil fuel generators while ensuring continuity of service, particularly for charging infrastructure and critical facilities.
“This real-world demonstration on the A10 motorway highlights the maturity of our technology and its ease of implementation. In partnership with major players like Shell, we are validating WattAnyWhere’s ability to guarantee local, clean, and sovereign energy, ready for large-scale deployment,” explains Alexandre Laybros, co-founder of WattAnyWhere.
Towards a new full-scale demonstration
Building on the success of this demonstration, WattAnyWhere is already preparing the next step: a new trial near Besançon, at the E.Leclerc Valdahon site. The goal: to power the entire site with low-carbon electricity, including cooling units and charging stations, to reduce energy costs and ensure a continuous power supply even in the event of a grid outage.
This full-scale test will mark a crucial new step towards the industrial phase, confirming WattAnyWhere’s ability to meet the real energy needs of economic and commercial players.
