WattAnyWhere and SmartB have embarked on a collaboration to mitigate carbon emissions in the transportation sector. WattAnyWhere is developing an off-grid generator that uses renewable ethanol as an energy vector to power fast-charging stations for electric vehicles. SmartB’s role is to provide a unique financial service that involves appraising the environmental value generated by WattAnyWhere’s activities that reduce or remove carbon emissions.
WattAnyWhere’s solution will drastically reduce the CO2 emissions associated with fast-charging of electric vehicles, especially in countries with high emissions power plants such as Germany, The Netherlands, Greece or Poland, where electricity is used or exported with more than 300g eqCO2/kWh. As part of our collaboration, SmartB will contribute by ensuring the validation of the emission reductions created by each generator supplied by WattAnyWhere. The reductions are estimated to exceed 250tCO2e per year, and up to 600tCO2e per year. While SmartB ensures the validation and certification of the carbon emissions reduction, the second part of their financial service involves enabling the monetization of these reductions. SmartB will enable this by providing access to ex-ante financing based on the future carbon credits generated by WattAnyWhere’s solution. This creates tradable digital environmental products that can be acquired by third-party buyers interested in offsetting their emissions.
